First Class Mechanic

Originally from Scotland, Jimmy now is an Australian citizen.  Jimmy has a wide range of experience in the bicycle industry and specializing in downhill, cross country, road and triathlon bicycles.

Qualified in Automative Engineering

Jimmy is a qualified Automotive Technician (Scottish Higher National Certificate in Automotive Engineering), working in a wide range of workshops, from council run double decker bus company, car manufacturers (VW, Toyota, Lexus, Holden) through to being manager/technician in a one man garage.  Jimmy spent a couple of years in the Snowy Mountain Thredbo area as the sole NRMA roadside assistance mechanic.

Bicycle Mechanic

Jimmy has been workshop manager and technician for a mountain bike company where he was responsible for workshop activities, ranging from vehicle repairs to full Downhill, freeride, BMX, Hybrid and Cross Country mountain bike fleet (60 bikes).

He has been a mechanic for Gap Cycles, Cycleogical and Peloton cycles.  Since then, several bike shops in Brisbane have contracted Jimmy to carry out specialist work for them, such as wheel building.

He was the sole bike mechanic for a fleet of tricycles for Australia Post.

Jimmy was mechanic for Downhill National Championships in 2006.  He turned down the position as a race team mechanic for the Commencal Downhill MTB team due to his application for Australian citizenship.  The position of race mechanic for the DH world Championship Yeti team was also offered to Jimmy, but the decision was made to be mechanic for the Smiling for Smiddy charity ride instead, as the events unfortunately fell on the same dates.

Bikeology in the Community

Strong friendships have also been created throughout the Australian industry.

Mountain Biking

Jimmy is a qualified mountain bike instructor.  He trained the Australian state bicycle police in off road skills.  Bikeology has sponsored South East Queensland 4x Mountain Bike events, and sponsors Ben Power (Banshee Downhill MTB team rider) for race suspension work.

Road Cycling

Endorsed by Lance Armstrong Foundation LIVESTRONG - the Smiling for Smiddy ride is a 1600km eight day ride from Brisbane to Townsville to raise funds for cancer research in memory of Adam Smiddy.  In 2008 Jimmy donated time to the cause by stripping and rebuilding 25 bikes from Trek and Lomond, and in 2009, 2010 and 2011 he was the road crew bike mechanic for 50 days riders for the entire eight days of the Smiddy Challenge, as well as the 3 day Midi-Smiddy Challenge.

Triathlon

Within the triathlon circuit, Jimmy has helped triathletes of all types, juniors and adults, from sprint distance age groupers to Ironman Kona world championship competitors. Bikeology sponsors Vision Triathlon Club, and enjoyed helping them with their bikes and followed their progress as many of the athletes qualified for the World Championships in Beijing 2011.

Bikeology Racing Team

Bikeology now has Downhill and Cross country mountain bike teams. Members of the Bikeology Team are consistently on the podium at most of the races in South East Queensland.

I was referred to Bikeology by a group of friends and I have never been more impressed when it comes to the servicing of my bike.  So when it came to needing a replacement set of wheels I sought the advice of Jimmy.  I wanted a set of hand built wheels as I was seeking a more reliable product without sacrificing performance. On Jimmy’s recommendation, and constrained by my budget, I went with a 32 hole Mavic Open Pro ceramic rims with DT Swiss competition spokes and Ultegra hubs.

This wheel set built by Jimmy has proven itself to be bomb proof. I use the wheels on the daily commute and for racing. Six months have passed and they are still as straight as when I bought them. I have never experienced the same high level attention to detail servicing and advice from another mechanic. I strongly recommend Jimmy to others.
